Gordon completed public school and university studies in St. Louis. He graduated from Vashon High School and went immediately to Stowe University. He obtained a Bachelors degree in Art and a minor in Science (BA/BS). After two years of teaching, Gordon moved to Atlanta for formal training in insurance administration. At the conclusion of studies, he received a certificate in Insurance Underwriting from the Atlanta Life Insurance Company. Gordon enrolled in graduate school and attempted twice to complete a graduate degree at Eastern Michigan University and at the University of Michigan however work and family priorities hindered his completion of the degree.
